"Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger -- aiming to "terminate" childhood obesity -- has signed into law three proposals to reduce the amount of so-called junk food available in the state's schools. The new laws: Restrict the sale of soft drinks in high schools, extending a prohibition already in place in the state's lower grades. Set nutritional standards for vending-machine snacks and other foods sold in schools. Set aside $18.2 million so that schools can serve more fruits and vegetables in meal programs..."
